Successful Weight Management
Many agree that successful and long-term weight management can be more difficult than the actual task of losing weight itself. The reason for this is because weight loss plans are usually quite structured and regimented and when the dieter stops following the plan and goes back to their normal eating (and lifestyle) habits, the weight inevitably comes back within time. As such, the key to achieving long-term success should rely on adopting sensible principles and guidelines as dictated by individual lifestyle habits.
Below is a list of guidelines designed to help ensure long-term success in weight management. They are designed to enhance and maintain a healthy and balanced lifestyle, while also improving your well-being for life. The goal is to equip you with the tools required to design your own plan by providing healthy eating strategies and lifestyle principles. Please embrace each one with care, and with time you will be equipped to achieve and maintain a healthy weight, and fight illness and disease at the same time.
   1. Eat plenty of vegetables and fruits every day
   2. Eat low GI breads and grains
   3. Eat more legumes such as beans, chickpeas and lentils
   4. Choose healthy proteins
   5. Choose healthy fat sources
   6. Choose packaged and prepared foods carefully
   7. Stay hydrated
   8. Get active
   9. Eat mindfully all day long
When choosing the foods to incorporate into your daily diet, it is also important to make your calories “count” by considering how long the food will keep you satiated (feeling satisfied). This is often related to the quality of the carbohydrates (low GI is key) and the nutritional balance within a particular food. Research has shown that because low glycemic (GI) foods break down and release energy slowly, they provide increased levels of satiety over high GI foods, which break down and release energy very quickly. Additionally, foods that have a good nutritional balance of carbohydrates, fiber, protein and fat will help to keep you feeling satisfied for longer periods of time. Combining these elements with calorie and portion control will lead to greater long-term success in weight management, and quality of life in general.
